If you or anybody in your household suffers from asthma, allergies, or respiratory problems then an air purifier is an essential piece of kit. Making sure you chose an air purifier with a HEPA filter means that the appliance has to, by law, remove 99.97% of airborne particles. This ensures that whether the problem is dust, animal hair, pollen or pollution, the air in your house will be kept to the highest standards of cleanliness.
Honeywell are one of the leading manufacturers of HEPA air purifiers and today we’ll be reviewing a selection of the models available so that you can be sure to buy the best one for your circumstances.
Honeywell HHT-011 Compact Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter
If you’re looking to buy a compact purifier for a smaller room like a bedroom perhaps that doesn’t cost the earth then the Honeywell HHT-011 Compact Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter might well be the one for you. As you might guess from the model description, this purifier comes with a permanent HEPA filter which means you won’t have to worry about buying replacement filters down the line. Instead you can just remove and clean the pre-filter every once in a while to keep things working as they should.
Despite its petite size the HHT-011 is a solid performer and once you have one up and running you’ll quickly notice how much cleaner a room feels and smells. If noise bothers you it should be noted that this purifier is not silent by any means, especially on its higher settings. Leaving it at normal or low and it’s a much quieter affair, although if white noise bothers you it could pose a problem.
Honeywell 50250-S Pure HEPA Round Air Purifier
Next up in our review we have a HEPA air purifier that is ideal for larger rooms. For the price, the Honeywell 50250-S Pure HEPA Round Air Purifier is great value as it is able to purify large amounts of air with ease. If you live in a fairly open-plan house or apartment then the 50250-S might be the ideal single unit solution, as opposed to buying multiple smaller purifiers.
The circular shape of this air purifier means it can be placed (and will work most effectively) when you place it in the center of a room, or at least not tucked up against the wall. This model comes with a replaceable HEPA filter, which the appliance itself monitors and will remind you when it needs to be changed. Whilst there are more capable HEPA air purifiers available on the market they have the price-tags to match – at this price point the 50250-S has its competition soundly beaten.
Honeywell HFD-120-Q Tower Quiet Air Purifier
Well we’ve looked at the compact model and the full-size, now let’s check out a mid-size contender with the Honeywell HFD-120-Q Tower Quiet Air Purifier. It seems that the Honeywell air purifier designers aren’t afraid of trying different shapes and sizes, even in this brief round-up, each model is decidedly different and the HFD-120-Q Tower is no exception. This purifier also oscillates so you can tuck it away in a corner and it will still get the job done.
The filter set-up in the HFD-120-Q is similar to the HHT-011 Compact we reviewed first – a permanent filter with a removable pre-filter which you can easily remove, clean, and put back in periodically. It’s worth noting that this model doesn’t have a ‘true’ HEPA filter, instead fitted with an IFD ‘HEPA type’ filter. That said it still removes 99.97% of airborne particles so in practice you won’t notice any difference (if you really want a Honeywell tower purifier with a true HEPA filter you could consider the Honeywell HHT-081 Tower Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter as an alternative). These compact towers are ideal for medium size rooms and also run very quietly if white noise bothers you.
