This JNC660 portable jump starter from Clore Automotive delivers 1700 peak amps – more than double the amount most of its competitors can muster. If this thing can’t get your vehicle started, nothing can.
Whilst the Clore Automotive JNC660 Jump-N-Carry Jump Starter is available as a consumer product, it has more in common with its professional and industrial counterparts thanks to its huge power output, which is enough of a selling point to make this model a no-brainer if you’re in the market for a jump starter.
As you’d expect for the most powerful jump starter available in this price range, the JNC660 has a suitably heavy-duty design. The main unit is made from tough, chunky plastic and the terminal cables also feel reassuringly solid. Despite its durable construction this model weighs in at just 18 pounds. OK, it’s not a feather-weight but it’s certainly light enough to carry around with you easily.
The unit has a built in AC charger so it’s simple as pie to recharge using a standard AC outlet, and will automatically stop charging when it’s full so you can leave it plugged in without having to worry about any damage caused by overcharging. Once it’s topped up it’ll last for months at a time in the trunk.
Whilst the JNC660 has plenty of grunt to get the job done, it does lack a few of the additional features of its competitors. Some are pointless additions which aren’t missed anyway like a built in air compressor or radio (why would you need that?!) but other jump starters often feature a safety measure which doesn’t allow you to accidentally jump a battery with the cables hooked up the wrong way round – the JNC660 does not.
It also displays the current charge using a voltmeter, unlike the user friendly traffic light system of other consumer models. Basically it’s a professional device at consumer prices so don’t expect tons of user friendly features – you need to know (the admittedly basic) skills for a jump starting a vehicle when you use the JNC660.
Overall the Clore Automotive JNC660 is an excellent portable jump starter. What it lacks it additional features it makes up for by providing the reassurance that when you get caught out with a flat battery this unit has to raw power to get your motor running again, every time.
