The Hauppauge 1445 HD-PVR Gaming Edition High Definition Personal Video Recorder lets you record HD video from any modern games console or PC including the Xbox 360, PS3 or Wii. It’s perfect for recording high quality video content for uploading to YouTube and other websites.
One of the biggest problems with recording gameplay videos using other methods is that they can introduce lag, and on PC’s can significantly lower frame rates if you’re using a software solution. The Hauppauge 1445 HD-PVR Gaming Edition High Definition Personal Video Recorder avoids this issue because it uses a video passthrough so it can record footage without any kind or latency or performance hit.
Videos can be recorded at anything up to 1080i which is more than high enough for great quality HD clips to upload, or even for watching back on Blu-ray. Audio uses AC-3 encoding, and 5.1 surround sound is supported as well. If you want to watch videos back on a console itself, the PS3 and 360 can be a bit picky about what file formats they will play. The Hauppauge 1445 HD-PVR Gaming Edition can record in .TS format which works on the majority of media players, .M2TS which works fine on the PS3, and .MP4 which the 360 will playback without issue.
What’s in the box? You get the PVR itself along with 3 in 1 component cable which is compatible with the 360, PS3 and Wii. You also get a set of audio cables, a USB cable and the powersupply. Thrown into the deal is Arcsoft’s “Showbiz” video recording software for easy editing and uploading.
The Hauppauge 1445 HD-PVR Gaming Edition works great and comes with everything you need to get started recording gameplay footage and video. Bear in mind this is essentially a PC capture adapter, so you’ll need it hooked up to a PC to record things – it’s not a standalone unit. It also works with Macs although the bundled software isn’t compatible – you’ll have to download a Mac friendly alternative.
